HP Sports Brief: Charlotte Nawor becomes first female all-state cross country runner in Highland Park history

With a 3-mile time of 17 minutes and 18 seconds, junior Charlotte Nawor became the first female all-state cross country runner in Highland Park history. She eclipsed her ranking by almost 40 places and shattered her sectional time by 36 seconds in the process, all after not running last year due to an iron deficiency. After losing to Glenbrook North in the CSL North Championship game last year, Highland Park football achieved redemption with a 34-33 win over the Spartans. The win won the CSL North for the Giants and clinched an undefeated regular season and the best record in school history (9-0). Highland Park football closed with a 20-0 second half to take down Niles North and move to 8-0. The win set up a conference championship game against Glenbrook North next Friday night. Last year, the Spartans beat the Giants 21-17 and won the CSL North Title after their defense stopped HP’s Kelshawn Shields one yard short of the end zone on a fourth-and-goal attempt with ten seconds last.
