DERRICK JETER’S 3,000th HIT: A NEVER ENDING PUZZLE

We can all exhale now. Today, Derrick Jeter hit his 3000th hit on a solo home run off of David Price and the Tampa Bay Rays.

Derek Jeter's 3,000th hit: a solo home run off of David Price. It was only the 2nd time someone hit their 3,000th hit as a home run.

The fact that he hit it off of the Rays though, is more interesting and complex than it seems.

The only other player in the history of the MLB to hit his 3,000th hit on a home run is Wade Boggs while he was with who else but, Tampa Bay.

Boggs and Jeter were also teammates during Derrick Jeter’s 1st of 5 World Series championships.

Also, Jeter lives in the Tampa Bay area, which is funny because he hit both his 3,000th hit and his 1,269th hit against Tampa. The 1,269th hit tied Lou Gehrig for the most hits in Yankee Stadium of all-time.

That hit was a home run against David Price- the same pitcher he faced and the same way he hit his 3,000th.

Wade Boggs, who was once Jeter's teammate, was the only other player to get their 3,000th hit on a home run.

Jeter is the first Yankee to reach 3,000 hits. It is fitting that he hit his 3,000th hit the way he did because the Yankees are such a historic franchise and it is fitting for the first time a Yankee gets to 3,000 is in such grand fashion.

Jeter’s 3,000th hit is a never ending puzzle.

Who knew that the number 3,000 could run so deep?

  1. Loving it. You are so on target! I am going to email the link to your page to some friends…so they too can follow it.

  2. How about the fact that Jeter went 5 for 5 on his big day?! I wonder if that’s ever been done as part of a 3,000 hit accomplishment … keep up the great work!
